Blue Moon

“Once in a blue moon…”

This month, there was a full moon on July 1 and tonight, the last day of July, there’s another. Get ready for a very rare event tonight – a blue moon.

Blue Moon is when there are 2 full moons in one Month. A full moon occurs roughly every 29.5 days and on the rare occasions when the full moon falls at the very beginning of a month there is a good chance a Blue Moon will occur at the end of the month. According to this definition the blue moon will occur on July 31, 2015.

What most call a Blue Moon isn’t blue in color. It’s only Blue in name. A blue-colored moon is rare. An older definition of Blue Moon is that it’s the third of four full moons in a single season. Someday, you might see an actual blue-colored moon. The term once in a blue moon used to mean something rare. It’s very rare that you would see a blue-colored moon, although unusual sky conditions – certain-sized particles of dust or smoke – can create them. Typically, when a moon does take on a bluish hue, it is because of smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere, such as during a cataclysmic volcanic eruption.

The first full moon of the month was in Capricorn on July 1st, and now, on Friday, July 31st we will have a Full Blue Moon in the sign of Aquarius. Please be careful what you ask for, the full Blue Moon will give you everything in double measure, so take some time to contemplate wishes and dreams. 🙂

Will you be watching the blue moon?
