The “Elka”, or fir tree, decorated New Year’s tree
St. Nicholas in past, nowadays Dedo Mraz “Grandfather Frost” Dedo Mraz is said to come on the night of December 31st to place presents under the New Year’s tree.
Although Christmas is now a national holiday, New Year’s remains the more popular and widely celebrated of the two, and Dedo Mraz still leaves presents under the New Year’s tree. In Russia, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria … The decorations are the same as for Christmas tree.
