The White Tower of Thessaloniki is a monument and museum on the waterfront of the city of Thessaloniki and the symbol of the city. And a meeting point for the residents of the city. 🙂
With long history, over the years the tower has been called different names, it was called the Lion Tower, the Tower of Kalamaria, the Red Tower (Bloody Tower, Ottoman time when it was used as a prison). It received its current name of White Tower (Lefkos Pyrgos) when it was whitewashed painted white as a symbolic gesture of cleansing. The tower was part of the perimeter walls of the city.
View from the rooftop is wonderful, beautiful panoramic view of the city and harbour, the depth of the horizon touching Olympus, gorgeous blue sea sparkling on morning sun or magical sunset.
