A Total Lunar Eclipse or Blood Moon
The moon turns different shades of red, orange or gold with each eclipse, supermoon, also called a harvest moon due to its occurrence falling at the beginning of the autumn season.
That’s because the shade of the light reaching the moon depends on what is in Earth’s atmosphere (the amount of water and particles), as well as the atmosphere’s temperature and humidity.
The Earth’s atmosphere removes or blocks parts of the sunlight’s spectrum leaving only the longer wavelengths. Because of this, a totally eclipsed Moon usually looks red.
(September 28, 2015 Total Lunar Eclipse) Such an event won’t happen again until 2033.
